Acre Mills – Outpatients – Huddersfield

Acre Mill is an Award Winning (Yorkshire RICS) state of the art health care facility in Huddersfield.

The redeveloped former wire mill is a Grade II listed building.

We believe our ironmongery is worthy of an entry as the fit for purpose specification took into consideration the need to conserve and retain the buildings natural features. In addition to ironmongery, we also supplied a specialist riser door system throughout the scheme.

Winner of The Public Health & Education Category – RIBA / GAI Architectural Ironmongery Specification Awards – 2016/17

What we offered

Ironmongery – The majority of the doors used Grade 4 ‘fit for purpose’ Round Bar Return SAA lever handles. SAA, D type pull handles were used on corridor doors. To keep within budget and help with tonal contrast the architect specified a SAA finish.

Digital locks were used on doors where increased privacy / security was required.

The Laser Treatment Rooms have nylon handles instead of SAA, this specification of handle was used to prevent interference with the sensitive laser machines within the rooms.

Due to the listed nature of the building certain doors had transom closers instead of floor spring, this specification was used due to the narrow specification of the floors and the inability to change this due to the listed status. For other areas high quality low resistance cam action closers were used where possible.

What the architect said:

‘The Grade II listed building created a challenge for the specifier but Em-B produced a seamless design throughout. The cost effective and co-ordinated package of ironmongery met with the client’s specification and long term requirements’ – Chris Race | Jefferson Sheard Architects
