Overdale is a substantial Victorian residence overlooking Ilkley Moor that has been completely refurbished by its new owners to provide modern living spaces within a traditional setting. This includes some special design requests, including an authentic basement pub, a number of pocket doors and even some secret doors throughout the property. Em-B worked closely with interior designer Bess Sturman to create an interior that is both beautiful and functional.
“The client gave us an open brief to create a new home from the bones of this traditional house”, says Bess Sturman. “We know how important the hardware is to the look and, importantly, the feel of a home, so we consulted Em-B very early on to ensure we could get the right products for this unique project. In the heritage parts of the building, Em-B supplied imperial bronze door and cabinet fittings throughout, including bespoke knurled levers on 4-panel Victorian doors that combine traditional skills with modern design and shapes. In the kitchen, walnut doors were fitted within walnut cladding with concealed hinges and closers, plus matching walnut finger pulls, making them almost invisible. Walnut sliding doors separate horizontal spaces, opening up the magnificent scenery surrounding the house.
