Building security is a primary consideration and a high priority, whether you are protecting a domestic home or a commercial business. The type of lock you need on a door very much depends on the type of door, its location, the security risk and how you want to use it. At EM-B we have a wide range of different lock types, all of which have different benefits and uses. It is essential that you select the right type of lock to suit your purposes, in order that your security system is suitable and effective.
The range of locks supplied by EM-B includes traditional designs and more modern designs, and also includes specialist locks suitable for specific rooms, such as a bathroom deadbolt. But generally speaking we can supply a large range of common lock types, such as:
- Sashlocks – These are often combined with mortice locks to make a mortice sashlock. The design is a deadbolt and a latch within a metal case. This type of lock is typically morticed or cut into the edge of the door, so is not surface mounted. It is also typically used with two lever handles either side of the door. A sashlock can be bypassed and the door can be opened without a key, if the latch is engaged.
 - Deadlocks – A deadlock is opened using a key, and therefore can’t be opened without a key, even if the door is latched. Deadlocks are often used on exterior doors because of this higher level of security.
 - Mortice latch locks – This describes any lock that is cut into a recess in the edge of the door, known as a mortice. This provides a higher level of security as the lock is integral to the door and is not surface mounted.
 - Emergency escape locks – These are often known as ‘panic locks’ and are designed for quick and simple exit through an external door, even if the door is locked from the outside. This type of lock is usually operated using a push bar or lever, and hence no key is needed.
 - Roller catches – A roller catch is a type of door fastener, which uses a spring-loaded roller to secure the door in the closed position. It is usually used on internal doors, and doors for cupboards or wardrobes, and hence, the roller catch doesn’t lock the door, it just holds it closed.
 - Bolt through tubular latch – This is a type of door latch which uses a bolt-through fixing method to secure the door handle. It is typically used on internal doors and has a hole within the latch mechanism which enables the bolt to pass through. This connects the door handles and the latch for a more secure connection. This helps to prevent the door handles loosening over time, and hence provides a stable and reliable installation.
 - Euro profile – A lock with a cylindrical locking mechanism can be described as having a ‘Euro profile’. This style of lock is often used in more contemporary door designs, such as uPVC, composite and aluminium doors.
